    Dr Anwah Nagia is one of Cape Town's foremost anti-Apartheid social activists and the Chairman of Element Investment Managers. He is also the Executive Chairman of Altius Investment Holdings, the Non-Executive Chairman of Cape Town Market and Africa Commodities Group and the Chairman of the District Six Beneficiary and Redevelopment Trust.

    In 2005, the Minister of Finance appointed him as Director of the Financial Service Board (Directorate of Market Abuse), with particular responsibility for market abuse on the JSE.  This appointment has been extended for a further 3 years to the end of 2014. He is a founder member and pass Director of the Association for Savings & Investment South Africa (ASISA) and currently serves on the Nominations Committee.

    He serves on the Senate and Council of the University of Western Cape. He is also the Chairman of various NGO bodies including the Mustadafin Foundation, which is one of the largest relief and feeding schemes in the country feeding approximately 1.2m people per annum. He is the founder member of the District Six Museum foundation and serves as an Executive Member on that board. Dr Nagia has been involved in many contempary and national issues and has spoken and lectured in Sweden, Denmark and United Kingdom on the Built Environment and related social issues. In 2004 Dr Nagia received an Honouree Doctorate together with the National Minister of Education Mrs Naledi Pandor in recognition for their work involving community and technology.  In the late 80's he was responsible for setting up learnerships for adult basic education in the clothing factories. In the mid 90's he was the Deputy Chairman of the Western Cape Nursing Council of South Africa and has been involved in the protection of Woodstock and Somerset Hospital for the continued use of those facilities for the communities.

    Terence joined Element Investment Managers in 2001 and was appointed as a Director and Chief Investment Officer. He has worked in financial services since 1991. Prior to joining Element Investment Managers, Terence qualified as a CA (SA) after completing his articles with Ernst & Young and then worked at Allan Gray Ltd as an equity analyst and portfolio manager after which he became a director of Taita, a private equity firm.

    Terence has been responsible for developing and documenting Element Investment Managers investment philosophy and investment process (including the incorporation of Responsible Investment principles as an integral part of this process) and growing the investment team since joining the firm in 2001.

    At the University of Cape Town he was awarded:

    • Standard Bank Scholarship, Entrance Merit Scholarship, was on the Dean's Merit List and was awarded the class medals for Applied Business Statistics II and for Business Finance II (his Business Science special field).
  • Jeleze Hattingh

    Jeleze joined Element Investment Managers in 2010 as an investment analyst and was appointed as a portfolio manager in 2012. She shares joint responsibility for managing the non-equity and fixed income assets under management and also has portfolio management responsibilities for Element's multi-asset portfolios. Her responsibilities further include fundamental analysis of the property sector and technical indicators.

    Prior to joining Element, Jeleze had accumulated 8 years of work experience in the financial sector - both locally and abroad - working for institutions such as ABSA, Standard Bank, Credit Suisse (UK) and Deloitte Consultancy (UK). Jeleze returned from London to South Africa in 2008 and joined Allan Gray in Cape Town as their Fixed Interest Trader, before joining Element in 2010. Jeleze received a Master’s of Science (Cum Laude) in Business Mathematics and Information Science from the University of the North-West (previous Potchefstroom University) and is both a CFA and CMT charter holder.

    Shari'ah Portfolio Manager

    Shamier joined Element Investment Managers as a Shari'ah Portfolio Manager in October 2013 after 14 years working in the industry. He previously worked at Sanlam from 2009, initially joining as an Investment Analyst before being appointed a Portfolio Manager. Prior to this, he worked as an Investment Analyst at Cazenove/JP Morgan South Africa, HSBC and BJM, where he was a consistently highly rated analyst in the Financial Mail Analysts Survey.

    Shamier received a B Com in Accounting and Auditing from the University of Cape Town in 1994. He is also a CA(SA) and a CFA charter holder.

    Andrew joined Element Investment Managers in 2008 as an Investment Analyst, focusing on equities. He was appointed as a portfolio manager in 2017 and shares joint responsibility for managing the equity portfolios. Prior to joining Element, Andrew worked at Deloitte, where he completed his articles. He has a Bachelor of Business Science (Honours) from the University of Cape Town and is a CFA charter holder.

    Unit Trust Client Service

    Mareldia Dollie joined Element Investment Managers in November 2002. Mareldia's role is that of providing Unit Trust Administration and Client Service to our retail clients. She has 17 years experience in the financial services industry and worked at HSBC for six years as a supervisor in the operations area.

    Sharifa started off working as an accountant for Martin Luyt & Associates, which eventually merged to form Frater, Luyt & Associates and, subsequently, Element Investment Managers. In 2003, she was appointed as the Financial Manager for Element.

    Sharifa received a B Com in Accounting from the University of Cape Town in 1994.

    Hemita joined Element Investment Managers in 2004 as an accounts assistant. She became a certified bookkeeper in 2007.
